About our outreach

We chose Rev. Aaron Fruh of Knollwood Church, in Mobile Alabama to work with. He is a good friend and has the respect of the mayor of Mobile. His church has become a staging area for several humanitarian organizations that are reaching into the affected area. It's become an epicenter for receiving and distributing down to the remains of the communities of Bay St. Louis, Waveland, Pass Christian, and Biloxi. This update is first hand from him.

Aaron said, "You just wouldn't believe the devastation, the smell is overwhelming. There are dead animals everywhere.  I have this picture of a 4 foot fish laying in the middle of the interstate! When driving you have to carry 'fix a flat' for all the nails and debris that you can't avoid hitting in the roads. FEMA has shut down roads to anyone not part of the emergency help relief.
I went to Biloxi at the request of the Assemblies of God District to find the churches they couldn't connect with.  There is still no water or electricity in the area and as I drove to the church I was horrified to see the entire building ....gone! This church (about 500 people) had just dedicated their new facility the week prior to the hurricane and now its completely off the map! I stood with the pastor as he told me, "We don't care about the building-- we can rebuild and we have insurance but what about these people??"  As we stood there, the people would just come up to him and ask "Pastor, what do we do now?"  Tears in their eyes, each one's story of survival more moving than the one before.

I want to sponsor these pastors, Jim. know them and they are great men who have been reaching out into the community. Now they have the ear of the leaders and people want to hear from them. Even though they have no facility, they are still meeting out in the open and strangers arrive all day asking for help.

The banks are gone, the cell phone service destroyed, and so cashing a check is impossible. Each church I traveled to had the same story-- trying to find housing for total strangers as well as their church people."

We've just received these pictures from Aaron. We can't imagine the horror. Having traveled around the globe, we saw first hand the devastation of the tsunami in India at Christmas. This is similar. They are still digging' up bodies!!! We cannot sit in our homes and do nothing. Mobile airport is open so a team from GTM is traveling to be with Aaron Fruh this weekend. We have cancelled our concert schedule as we have to deliver the money in cash (no banks). We want be at  Aaron's side-- to hold him up, to make him laugh. He hasn't slept in 3 days. FEMA and Red Cross personal are staying at his church. One of our staff will stay for the long haul right in hardest hit gulf area while we go rally more supplies and additional funds.
